Internationally renowned Yellow Bird Indian Dancers under the direction of Ken Duncan, a member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe, specialize in cultural presentations that celebrate the unique spirit of the American Indian. For the past 30 years, Yellow Bird has curated a unique repertoire of songs, dances, stories and dialogue that entertain and educate audiences of all ages.

Yellow Bird is a professional family dance company based in Phoenix, Arizona. The group boasts many national dance champions and has been a featured for many prestigious audiences and institutions. Yellow Bird performed twice for former First Lady Laura Bush, and they entertained the President of China at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The group has performed at the National Museum of the American Indian in New York and in Washington D.C. The Department of Defense selected them to provide entertainment for our Peace Keeping Forces and Allies in November 2009 and 2011 at a NATO Military Base in Kosovo. Yellow Bird has also toured, at the request of the U.S. State Department, on numerous tours to U.S. Embassies/Consulates in Central Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Central/South America.

The 4GENTS have been burning up dance floors, shaking down music halls and melting hearts with their remarkable vocal talents since 2015. Specializing in doo-wop and popular vocal music mostly from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, these crooners have diverse backgrounds in opera, musical theatre, film, music education and pop music! This allows them to perform nostalgic hits with flair and their own distinct style while still keeping the heart and essence of the original music. 

Juan Aguirre made his professional debut in 1997 with Arizona Opera and since then has performed all over the world in both classical and popular genres. He has been featured in many roles such as Javert and Capt. Von Trapp and recorded two CDs. Juan can also be seen and heard on national TV and radio as a bilingual actor and voice over artist.

Dr. Greg Guenther resides in Tucson, performing with multiple professional opera companies in Arizona. Internationally, he has won awards in the ICCA competition as well as local accolades, such as the President’s Competition, Quest for the Best, and NATS. In Tucson, he teaches with TUSD’s OMA program and is on faculty at Pima Community College.

Matthew Holter is a performer with a wide range of abilities in music, dance and theatre having performed and directed around internationally in England, China, and Russia to name a few. Mr. Holter is the founder of the 4GENTS, a member of the Grammy nominated ensemble True Concord and is an award-winning music teacher.

Chach Snook is a performer with numerous credits under his belt both on the stage and directing. Chach enchants audiences with his clarion voice and presence. Mr. Snook was a member of NY-based vocal ensemble Pieces of Eight before moving to Tucson where he has continued actively performing while earning Teacher of the Year as an outstanding fine arts teacher.

Los Llaneros (yah-NEH-ros) perform the highly energetic and sometimes haunting music of the savannas of Colombia and Venezuela. This culturally unique art form evolved from the contact between nomadic Indians and Spanish settlers starting 500 years ago. Llanero music is cowboy music intimately intertwined with the lifestyle and the natural environment of these grasslands. Due to the distinctly characteristic syncopations and difficult harp and cuatro techniques, Llanero music is rarely performed in its authentic style outside of the region, and hence it remains one of Latin America’s best kept secrets.

Los Llaneros was founded in 1978 in Latin America. One of its founding members, Karin Stein (Colombian), still serves as the ensemble’s main vocalist and ensemble leader. She is joined on stage by Edgar East (Panamanian), and harpists René Devia (Colombian) and Daniel Rojas (Colombian). ”From the moment they stepped on stage, the audience was at their mercy.” South Florida Sun Sentinel

James Fernando has been hailed by World Music Report as a “prodigiously gifted composer and virtuoso pianist,” by Jazz Sensibilities as “limitless in his ability to articulate his ideas,” and by Contemporary Fusion Reviews as “creating one of the most amazing musical experiences you’ve ever had.” After building an impressive career with international performances, collaborations with GRAMMY Award-winning artists, and five album releases, James formed his trio in 2023. Despite being relatively new to the scene, the trio has already established itself as one of the finest jazz groups active today. They have been presented nationwide at leading venues such as The Kennedy Center, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, and The Ravenscroft, while also holding workshops and concerts at universities across the country. 

Based in Philadelphia, the James Fernando Trio creates music steeped in the tradition of jazz legends such as Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, and Thelonious Monk. With a balance of playfulness and technical mastery, the trio delivers fresh interpretations of jazz standards alongside compelling original compositions. Their performances bring the jazz genre into the present day through inventive improvisation, clever arrangements, and captivating rhythms. Since their inception, The Lettermen have always taken a current song of the day and put their 3-part harmony to it which is called Lettermenizing a song. Donovan Tea, Bobby Poynton and Rob Gulack, each of whom are entertainers in their own right, have kept the meaning of harmony alive with their soft, romantic, harmonic blend of music which is as popular with their fans today as it was in 1961 when The Lettermen recorded their first hit, “The Way You Look Tonight”.

For The Lettermen debut single record in the summer of 1961, Capitol Records decided to put a romantic ballad on the B-side of “That’s My Desire”, which was an attempt at a doo-wop single, figuring radio stations would have to play the A-side because the B-side was so sweet, and slow, and did not necessarily encompass the commercial sound of the day. The B-side was “The Way You Look Tonight”. Soft, melodic and romantic, it was a departure from the rock ‘n’ roll music of the day. Eventually, listener requests made it a must for radio station play lists nationwide. The song shot to No. 13, on the Billboard chart. The group’s second single that year did even better. “When I Fall In Love,” another soft, slow ballad hit No.7, establishing The Lettermen as the most romantic singing group of a generation.

The Lettermen have recorded over 75 albums – eighteen gold records internationally – and a myriad of hits including “When I Fall In Love”, “Goin’ Out Of My Head/Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” and “Put Your Head On My Shoulder” to name just a few. They continue to perform interesting, updated arrangements of several classics such as “The Way You Tonight” and “Theme From A Summer Place”. 

While always honoring their roots, audiences are showing a resounding love for the “Lettermenized” new arrangements of “Never Enough” from the mega-hit The Greatest Showman, “Sugar” Medley (“I Can’t Help Myself”, “Sugar”, “How Sweet It Is”) and “Happy” Medley (“Happy”, “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy”, “Happy Together”). These talented individuals interestingly play with the harmonies on songs like “Suspicious Minds”, “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” and “Over The Rainbow”. Their amazing vocals continually swoop over one another, mesmerizing audiences all over the world.

When virtuoso Irish playing jumps the pond running naked through the wide open fields of Bluegrass and Americana, JigJam is born. Bluegrass and American Folk music originated from the group’s home, and now JigJam is here to take it back! The group made its Grand Ole Opry Debut in Nashville in March of 2023 to critical acclaim, receiving a standing ovation from a sold-out crowd on Country Music’s biggest stage. The group was joined that night by Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Steve Earle, Lauren Alaina, and many more. The Offaly and Tipperary-born musical powerhouse is known for foot stomping high energy performances wherever they travel.

Luminous layers of color and wax combined to make painting in this medium magical. Combining layers of wax and paint with marks produces results with texture and depth that cannot be duplicated in any other medium. This ancient technique may be utilized to create rich deep surfaces with paintings from abstract to landscape to realism. In this workshop you learn basic concepts and techniques of oil/cold wax painting as well as how to incorporate other media including oil pigment sticks, pencils, charcoal & powdered pigments. Techniques include methods of application, ways of building depth & texture and mark-making. Cold wax is a mixture of beeswax, resin, and odorless mineral spirits. Unlike encaustic, cold wax is applied at room temperature and does not involve the use of heat. Students will be introduced to multiple methods of working in oil and cold wax through an intuitive process utilizing various non-traditional mark making tools and experimentation. 

This is a fun, experimental and relaxed workshop, appropriate for artists at all levels. Students will experiment and create one or more pieces daily.

Award winning singer/producer Katherine Byrnes brings the passion of legendary performer and rock icon Janice Joplin to the stage in “Piece of My Heart” – a concert that pays tribute to the musical zeitgeist of the 60s. In addition to Janis’ iconic songs such as “Me and Bobby McGee”, “Tell Mama” and “Piece of My Heart”, the show includes numbers saluting Janis’ contemporaries and influences such as Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Kris Kristofferson, and more!

Variations have been one of the most enduring musical forms and have inspired creativity from centuries of musicians as the limitations set by repeating forms paradoxically give way to unbound inventiveness. In “The Art of Variation,” Accademia de’ Dissonanti presents an intriguing program of research, exploration, composition, and performance that corresponds to the most recent innovations in eighteenth-century performance practice. It is well known that most performers in the 18th century also composed, both for their own instruments and for the ensembles in which they worked, and that elements of improvisation and variation were an integral part of musical practice. This new program explores the Baroque art of variation through celebrated music by Corelli and Vivaldi as well as a new cello sonata by Elinor Frey.

Accademia de’ Dissonanti, founded in 2020, presents concerts, publications, and educational academies focused on historical performance and creative research under artistic director Elinor Frey. Named after a 17th-century Modenese society, the ensemble fosters musical exploration. They have toured Canada and performed at major festivals, including Montréal Chamber Music Festival and Festival Classica.

This concert is presented by the Arizona Early Music Society. Founded in 1982 by University of Arizona, Arizona Early Music is dedicated to enriching contemporary life with music of the past. AEM’s series is internationally known for presenting world-class performances by specialists in historical performance from around the globe. 

Founded in Dallas, TX in 1983 by Michael Levine, Dallas Brass has become one of America’s foremost musical ensembles. The group has established a unique blend of traditional brass instruments with a full complement of drums and percussion, which creates a performing entity of extraordinary range and musical challenges. Dallas Brass repertoire includes classical masterpieces, Dixieland, Swing, Broadway, Hollywood and patriotic music. In addition to their solo engagements, Dallas Brass appears with symphony orchestras nationwide. Symphonic credits include the Cincinnati Pops conducted by Erich Kunzel, New York Pops conducted by Skitch Henderson, and the Philly Pops conducted by Peter Nero. Dallas Brass has performed at Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and has toured overseas to Europe and the Far East. They have shared the stage with the late Bob Hope, have performed for Presidents Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush, have appeared on the CBS “Early Show”, and their music has been used numerous times on the television show, “The Young & The Restless”. 

The ensemble has released seven recordings: Debut, Dallas Brass II, A Merry Christmas with Brass, Windborne, Nutcracker, American Songbook and American Musical Journey. Dallas Brass has a strong dedication to working with young musicians. They have published two books of original small ensemble music for middle school and high students called Brass Grooves, and they have played a major role in helping launch Harmony Bridge — a community outreach program for student musicians. In addition, many public performances have a student component including a clinic and invitation for students to join them on stage for a selection on the Dallas Brass concert. Over 300,000 students have performed with Dallas Brass over the years. Dallas Brass is comprised of Michael Levine, Brian Neal, Luis Cardenas Casillas, Juan Berrios, Ryan Christiansen, Paul Carlson, and Craig Hill.
