This is the first installment of a five part series on the legal history of the United States. Would you ever commit treason? That is precisely what those men did when they signed the Declaration of Independence. Imagine for a moment what a momentous decision it was for them, each risking their lives. How had Western thought changed that would make such an act of defiance against the king even thinkable? What events occurred that would trigger such an act? It was not just “taxation without representation” as we like to say. Come and hear the whole story of this signal event in our nation’s history, as we celebrate 250 years.
