For this 2-day workshop we will cover the fundamentals of oil painting, including materials, surfaces, the basic palette, and color properties/concepts. Students will learn ways to begin a painting with techniques such as underpainting, scumbling, and wiping out to create a well-developed value study of their compositions - an “indirect” approach in the painting process which I will demo. We will also experiment with the direct approach, “alla prima” (at first attempt) which is the wet in wet or direct technique.

Bring your own reference photos or use those I supply. My strategy is to customize my instruction to the individual needs of each student as we progress. Our goal: 1 to 2 paintings per day. Our other objective - have fun and get inspired!
