Susan for two days filled with serendipitous surprises using a variety of media, techniques, and tools to produce a series of mixed media pieces. In this workshop, layering media, texture, pattern, colors, and/or imagery will be addressed to create unique artwork. Students will be encouraged to experiment with different color combinations, compositional formats, tools, and media. A fun method for using limited color palettes as well as learning some basic color terminology will help students produce interesting backgrounds to build upon. Marks using a variety of implements and media on translucent and transparent papers (rice, tea, medical exam, wet-strength tissue, and deli papers) as well as stamps, stencils, glazes, and veils will be used to aid each student to express their inner artist in many ways to create dynamic work. This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as experienced artists. Come join the fun and camaraderie.

In addition to acrylic paint, students will experiment with inks, sprays inks, mica powders, graphite crayons, gel pens, and Posca pens using a variety of tools such as brayers, icing spatulas, catalyst wedges, silicone shapers, and more. Susan has developed some exciting exercises to get students’ creative juices flowing. These will be followed by students creating a series of paintings, while learning some design principles and formats.
